SOP: EIGHT EXAMPLES OF SPIRITUAL SIGNS
(Spiritual Perception Series—1980)
Lesson XXVI
******************
Today, we are going to have a brief review in regard to the signs we spoke of in our last lesson. In the next lesson I will further expound on the signs in more detail.
There
has been much interest in the signs that are coming by the Holy Spirit. After
analyzing them, we find that there are eight different classifications of spiritual
signs that can be felt by an individual.
1.) Symptom Signs: These signs involve sharp physical pain, even though the person to whom the sign comes has nothing physically wrong with him. There is another basis entirely for the pain. It is possible to stand before an individual and
the same symptom of the infirmity that he is feeling. For instance, if
someone has a headache, you may suddenly develop one also because it is a symptom
sign of what he has. If he has an oppression of some kind, you will feel a symptom
of oppression, even though you yourself are not oppressed. At times it comes as
a cloud blocking the Lord’s joy in the individual’s life and has a way of changing
the atmosphere around the person. You may feel a heaviness come over you, and/or
may even see a shadow figure near an individual. His Christ Consciousness orb
above his head will be clouded. Usually the corona is clear and vibrant, but when
there is an oppression it becomes somewhat darkened.
2.)
Assault Signs: These are signs of devil attack
that is coming directly against you. For instance if you walk into a room that
needs blessing you may find that as soon as you walk through the door you get
a very sharp pain in your temple area, which is sign of a psychic attack.
3.)
Devil Signs: These are very closely related to the assault signs, and are from Satan
himself. You have to be careful to understand what is of God and what is from
the devil We will not delve deeply into this classification
4.)
Impartation Signs: An example of an impartation sign is the anointing that comes forth in
the palm of the hands; sometimes anointing oil has even sprung forth in the palms.
These signs indicate that God is anointing you to impart a healing or ministry
to someone. Even if you do not lay your hands upon a person, you are to participate
with faith for the individual. Sometimes, the anointing that comes to my hands
is a deep burning sensation. And, at other times my hands will get very cold.
When my hands get cold the Lord wants to impart something that changes the atmosphere
in the room, or change the level of a person’s consciousness by ‘waking him’ up
with the change of temperature.
5.)
Ministry Signs: These come differently that
the previous classifications. It is always difficult to interpret a ministry sign
because each individual may receive a different sign depending upon his own particular
ministry. For instance, a certain brother received a prophecy over him that he
would be a prophet, that the anointing felt as a very pleasant sensation or tingling,
of the Lord would come upon his mouth, and he would prophetically rebuke devils
and cast them out. Whenever he was in the presence of a devil that needed to be
cast out, he received this sign upon his mouth, I had a sign given to me relating
to the presence of devils and casting them out, but it worked in my hands. When
I get a sign in my mouth, it is primarily for teaching, because God has set me
aside to teach by the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge. You cannot interpret
the signs the same. The same sign upon the mouth can have a different meaning
for different people. All the ministry signs are included in one classification.
6.)
Angel Signs: Only recently have I begun to come
into a deep understanding of the presence of angels, who they are and what they
are to do. Angels have a certain pleasant and uplifting smell to them, like a
bouquet of flowers. This is the usually the case when the worship service is about
to enter into a beautiful level of anointing. The angels are present ministering
to the people, uplifting their focus and supporting them to break through to the
Lord. After the breakthrough in worship as the level is ascending there can be
the smelling of incense, this is indicative of the higher seraphim worshipping
angels There are times when you may feel a slight tingling at the back of your
head, either on one or the other side—this is an angle touching certain areas
of your mind and/or emotions that need healing or focusing. Sometimes you may
feel a very strong presence of courage and faith in the atmosphere and you will
have the sense of the warring angels as we go into a time of intercessional and/or
prophetic warfare. There are times when your sight is opened up and you can actually
see angels—some of them are huge and you receive revelation of their virtue-names,
i.e., faith, courage, wisdom, purity. You may see an expression of Michael the
1.)
Divine Presence Signs: These
signs of His Presence sometime come so visibly that many can see a cloud of glory
resting over a congregation. God reveals that He inhabits the praises and worship
of His people. There may also be such an anointing upon you that as you stand
in the presence of the Lord, you will feel His presence or sense His presence
by a certain sign that will be revealed to you. There are times in worship where
you may break through to that place of silence, where God’s Presence carries with
it such holiness that it almost overwhelms you. You stand there in worship and
He just ministers to you in ways that only you can appreciate fully. Sometimes,
you can feel His Spirit searching every part of your being—the energy is so comforting
and full. You may experience as the Spirit searches you out that deep things hidden
in the subconscious begin to surface and you view them on the screen of your mind.
You may find yourself weeping in repentance, and then the Lord comforts you and
fills you with more of His Spirit. You have a sense of cleansing and purity—He
is imparting His righteousness to you and you are soaking it up in your spirit.
Other times in worship you will feel His Presence and find that you have a sense
of lifting as riding in an elevator and Scripture, and picture-thoughts and symbols
start appearing before the screen of your consciousness. The top of your head
will feel a tingling sensation that is so pleasant that you might find yourself
giggling a little. Or, you will feel your spirit at the top of your head drawing
upon the Lord’s Presence and you may hear instruments, angels signing or the music
of the spheres. You can be standing in His Presence and as the energy is absorbed
through the top of your head you find that it is also coming in through your ears,
your eyes, your hands, your feet and circulating throughout your whole body, and
you feel that you are expanding in all directions. Psalms and prophecies may begin
to come to your mind. New revelations and understandings. After you come down
from worship you may find that certain areas of your body are tingling with anointing.
Your spiritual sight has been open and you are able to see the coronas and light-bodies
of the cloud of witnesses standing in the sanctuary all around you. All of this
and more as you stand in His Presence.
2.)
Restoration Signs: Many times, the only purpose in God giving you a sign is to indicate that
He is moving upon you to restore something in your life. For example, you may
have an anointing upon your ears and that could mean one of many things. It could
be an assault sign meaning that a lying spirit is coming against you, or it could
come in another area of the ear and mean something else entirely. If your ears
burn, then you know that the Word of the Lord is coming, but if there is only
a general anointing upon them, this is a restoration sign that your ears are being
restored to their original capacity to hear the voice of the Lord.
I am persuaded that before
this restoration has taken place, we will not only know God in our spirits, but
we will know Him also with all of our physical faculties. I base this upon Romans
8:11: But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells
in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your
mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwells in you. This verse is not
speaking about the resurrection or about immortality. What it actually means is
that the Spirit will give life to your mortal bodies. Why? Because, generally
speaking, your mortal body is dead to the life of the Spirit. Although you may
seem to be very much alive, in reality you are really only existing. Your mortal
body, with all of its five senses (or perhaps six or seven senses), is dead to
God. That is what makes faith such a difficult problem. Because of the depravity
of the fallen nature, the flesh is more akin to Satan than it is to God. It will
be easy for the world to accept the miracles that false prophets and false Christs
perform because in the flesh they are already very close to that level themselves.
With this mortal body a person
cannot see angels, or God, or spirits, unless he is extremely clairvoyant. Clairvoyance
is a rather free development that exists in the spirit realm, both with Satan
and with God. Satan is a great student of what has taken place through the ages,
and sometimes, through devil power, he is able to find a way to supplement the
senses so that mediums are able to see spirits and talk with them. However, most
people find that their eyes, ears, nose, and other senses are quite dead to the
realm of spirit.
In this day God is bringing
a restoration to us, and the Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead is beginning
to give life to the mortal body so that it comes alive to a world to which it
has been dead since the day that Adam fell in the Garden of Eden. God said, “In
that day that you eat thereof you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:17). Adam’s spirit
died to the things of God and therefore men had to begin to call upon the Lord
(Genesis 4:26). Prayer was instituted because people could no longer walk and
talk with God; they could no longer commune with Him, and they no longer knew
Him. So far were the human faculties estranged from the knowledge of God that
men began to build altars and make sacrifices to call upon the name of the Lord.
Today, however, God is restoring
all things. He is again bringing signs to our mortal bodies to indicate His will.
Many times, during a personal-ministry service, we find that many in the congregation
are participating in the flow of the revelation signs that are coming forth. We
can all enter into this amazing manifestation that seems to be unique to this
age.
Scriptures can be found for
the signs. This is done in the same way the New Testament believers found references
in the Old Testament in regard to what was taking place for them. The early Church
existed for many years by preaching mostly from the Old Testament, and believers
of that day were able to build New Testament churches completely out of Old Testament
teaching. They did it by letting the Spirit of God show them the symbolical and
mystical meanings of certain passages of the Scripture.
Today, at a conjunction of
dispensations, we are entering into a new phase; and it is very possible that
we are reaching forward into the powers of the age to come (Hebrews 6:5). Therefore,
the things that are taking place in our midst, may be very difficult to interpret
in the light of what has happened during the course of the history of the Church.
There is nothing in the book of Acts to indicate that the early Church received
signs like we are receiving at this present time. They may have, and it just is
not mentioned in the Scriptures; but it is very difficult to establish something
when it is not named exactly. So with nothing more than that to go on regarding
scriptural confirmation of the signs, we prayed and sought God until He began
to reveal for us the meaning of these things and give us a tremendous anointing
upon them. This ministry of vision, prophecy, and utterance that has been prophesied
by many is very definitely taking place.
In II Kings 6:15-17 is a beautiful
story that tells about this vision that we will possess. And when the servant
of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host with horses
and chariots was round about the city. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my
master! How shall we do? And he answered, Fear not; for they that are with us
are more than they that are with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Yahweh, I
pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And Yahweh opened the eyes of the young
man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of
fire round about Elisha.
Bands of Syrians were making raids upon Israel and doing everything they could to ambush them, but each time Elisha warned them about the Syrians coming. Finally, the king of Syria began to wonder who it was that was always informing the Israelite concerning the whereabouts of h is army. Even that which the king spoke of in his bedchambers was being revealed. His servants told him that there were no spies among the Syrians, but that Elisha the prophet was tuned in to him and knew all of his thoughts. The king decided to after this Elisha. He gathered his armies together, and camped around the city where Elisha was. If Elisha new that much about the Syrians, he also must have known that they were coming for him.
One morning, the servant of
the man of God went out and saw the armies round about the city, ready to take
it. He cried out to Elisha. “What shall we do no?” Elisha said, “Fear not, for
they who are with us are more than those who are with them.” I cannot give you
Scripture and verse for it, but I believe that Elisha had more than a clairvoyant
vision. I believe Elisha knew of principles beyond some psychic tuning in to the
king’s thoughts. I believe Elisha could focus and then project his spirit (re-locate)
it right into the king’s chamber. Like Paul did while in prison and when the incidence
in the Corinthian church was taking place with a certain perversion. Paul spoke
of how though he was absent in prison he was present in spirit and judged (assessed)
the situation. As far as Elisha is concerned, he had the double portion of Elijah’s
ministry and so when you study the things that Elijah walked in consider the double
portion of that ministry taking place in Elijah. In studying the Elijah and Elisha
anointing it is evident that they were what we would term, “free spirits” having
the ability to project their spirit through time and space at will and re (bi)
locate to wherever they needed to go in consciousness/spirit. This is a projection of consciousness where
Elisha in his spirit utilized the “OM-nipresent Principle.” Elisha stood
in the bedchamber unnoticed by the king and his cohorts and listened to all their
plans. I can just visualize Elsiha standing there in spirit as kind-of, holograph,
akin to the ‘cloud of witnesses’ that encompass us. Elisha could see the angels
encamped about, because he was able to lift and project his consciousness to that
level. And here is the kicker that we must appropriate if we are to come into
the greater works---Elisha was able to do it at will. He had entered into a plane
of consciousness where he could manifest the principles. Christ did only those
things he saw the Father do. And, we are to bypass the doing into BEING. We are
to become the very manifestation of the greater works. It is like the difference
between the anointing resting on someone to prophecy on occasion as contrasted
to ‘being’ a prophet. One is ‘doing’ the other is ‘being.’
God is OM-niscient,
OM-nipotent and OM-nipresent. Christ, Jesus did this also. When
they wanted to throw him over the precipice after his quoting Isaiah 61 and proclaiming
that he was the fulfillment of that prophecy the Scripture records that he ‘passed’
though the crowds, untouched. Another time he entered into the boat and it was
‘immediately’ at the other end of the lake. He projected himself
and the boat in one focused move utilizing the Omness/ALLness of God’s Presence.
Isn’t this beautiful? And we are to walk in greater things than these.
Do you think we had better get with it and begin to appropriate the ‘greater works?”
In New Testament terms we would call what Elisha
had done in the way of ‘listening’ to the kings thoughts; the word of wisdom,
the word of knowledge, or perhaps the discerning of spirit—all of them were probably
involved in this instance in association with deeper spiritual principles. He
said, “Lord, open the young man’s eyes that he may see,” and the Lord opened his
eyes and then he saw the other side of the picture. The spirit realm was opened
to him and he saw the horses and the chariots and all the host of God round about,
ready to defend the prophet of God.
You may get the idea sometimes
that there are many things coming against you; but if your eyes were opened, you
could see how many angels are hovering over you to protect you. You would see
also how many of the children have angels watching over them. This is a fantastic
protection that God has given us. Authority does rest upon the angels, and we
know that Satan is nothing more than a fallen angel. He has been stripped of his
authority, because all the authority in heaven and earth is in Christ. Satan has
only a residue of pseudo-power remaining, plus a lot of malice with which he attempts
to beguile people to give him their power to hurt and or to destroy. He has no
authority or power in itself, other than what people give it by way of acknowledgement,
agreement and acceptance. Take all of that away and you have the perfect meaning
of what the, ‘apostle of faith,’ Smith Wigglesworth said, upon awakening from
a slumber, looking over his shoulder and seeing it---“Oh, it’s only you” and then
went back to rest. You may tend to give the devil too much credit, and by doing
so you do great injury to yourself. You can build up an unbelief that will open
the door to it. But if you have faith in what God is doing, then you will be aware
more and more that the hosts of God are round about. We have to come into the
operation and expression of the ‘single eye’ focus of which our Master spoke.
We must come into the spiritual sight of seeing the All-ness of God’s universe
and His eternal verities. We must grow into the singleness vision of the All-good
of God’s universe so that our whole spirit, soul and body will be filled with
light and that there will be no room for darkness. We must ascend in consciousness
to that place of the Oneness of vision. The “Oh, Israel the Lord thy God is ONE”
cannot be a mental ascent of something that feels good. It must become a reality
in full measure. Otherwise we are only fooling ourselves and will go by the wayside
as movement that came on the scene a fizzeld out because of the lack of faith
and oneness to enter in. God will have a people who will enter into the greater
works. The Lord was mouthing promises to just make us feel good. We must intensely
reach in boldly before the throne of Grace and demand as sons and daughters that
God fulfill his promise. It is one thing to have prophets prophesying—it is another
to have those ‘remembrancers’ that cry unto Him day and night to fulfill His Word
in us.
This is what God has said is
going to happen in the end time. Prophets like Elisha and his srvant are to possess
eyes that have been opened. They are going to possess visions and dream the dreams
and speak the words of the Lord and enter into areas on a higher level than the
prophets of old moved in. There will be a return of the very close communication
of God with His instruments in His hand. It will not be a psychic thing or anything
of the soul. It will have to be a combination of our positioning ourselves in
the Spirit and stimulating God’s integrity to fulfill His Word, promises and principles
as manifestation through us. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I
will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and you sons and your daughters will prophesy,
and you old men shall dream dreams, you young men shall see visions: and also
upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those day will I pour out my Spirit.
Joel 2:28-29.
In the end time there will
be a great deal of judgment coming to the earth and to the people of the world,
but there will also be deliverance in the remnant that the Lord God calls. Apparently
they are the ones who are embraced in this prophecy in Joel that speaks of your
sons and daughters prophesying, you old men dreaming dreams, and your young men
seeing visions. And this is only the beginning, because Christ said that we would
move in the greater works. The King James Version of Proverbs 29:18a says, Where
there is no vision, the people perish. The Revised Standard Version reads,
Where there is no prophecy people cast off restraint. Both translations
are correct. Before they were ever called prophets, prophets were known as seers.
I Samuel 9:9 records that there was a time when prophets were called seers in
Israel. Samuel and Elisha wre called seers because they saw things. The Lord opened
a vision of Himself to them. We are not appropriating enough faith for the greater
works to be manifested in our lives. We need to believe for more. We do not just
want to ‘see’ and ‘dream’ we want to manifest the greater
works. Elisha walked in a double portion anointing compared to Elijah, and the
Christ, Yahshua walked in more than a double portion than Elisha. And, we are
to walk in more than the Lord—that is the progression of God’s plan for His people;
otherwise He would not have spoken it through Yashua. When Moses and Elijah appeared
on the mount with the Lord three principles were being revealed. Moses represented
the Law as it applied to the physical. Elijah represented the higher aspect of
soul. And, the Lord represented the fulfillment in the Spirit.
When an anointing of the Lord
comes to people’s eyes they are able to see auras. Much research has been done
concerning the aura. I spoke to you earlier of Kirlian photography discovered
in 1895. In 1920 Dr. Kilner revealed that there are three auras about the human
body. He invented a coal tar dye product, which he put over glass, and by looking
through that extremely perishable substance, he was able to see the human aura
and tell a good deal about of what was wrong physically with an individual. He
was able to diagnose epilepsy and many other kinds of disease just by the way
the aura expressed affects by a particular disease. This fascinating study on
auras has been reprinted and is now available in bookstores. Various types of
spirit viewers and screens have also been invented through which you can see auras.
I predict that in the near future machines will be invented that reveal clearly
and concisely the different levels of auras and we will discover that they are
more than just three. And, we will have a great diagnostic tool for disease process.
And, may be able to diagnose disease even before it manifests in the physical
body. You know, the realm of spirit is not as complicated as people think. Eventually
the scientific world will catch up with the things God has shown us. God is releasing
revelation concerning the secrets within the realm of the human spirit, and it
will be received throughout the world, but it will be particularly related to
His end-time remnant. They are going to see visions, dream dreams, and become.
Never have we heard so much
about extrasensory perception and psychic sciences as we do now. Eventually all
the basic tenets of every science will have to be rewritten. If it is possible
to see the future and perceive what is going to happen through a vision, that
nullifies almost all of the scientific principles of cause and affect. The entire
world of physics is going to be changed drastically from the way it is being studied
at the present time. Psychiatry and psychology are already outdated sciences.
Even though they deal with certain aspects of our nature such as the conscious
and the unconscious, they still do not believe in the human spirit. Because of
that, they miss the one element that makes an individual. All of these will be
fields of exploration and development within the very near future in this great
move of God’s Spirit.
Many years ago, Brother Stevens
brought a Word that God gave him by revelation, called “The Conjunction of Two
Worlds.” In it God showed us that this world, which we know, and a spirit world,
which we do not know, are going to be joined together. That day is upon us. Even
they that sleep in god will Christ bring with Him the days of the Parousia, before
the great coming of the Lord (I Thessalonians 4:14). Do not get the idea that
you will get ahead of any of them, for these dead in Christ shall rise first.
Their spirits are hovering about us now. There is a great gathering of the spirit
world, and the whole host that is in Christ is here, ready for that first resurrection
to take place.
Spiritualism broke forth less
than half a century ago, and within the past generation it has really gained ground
because Satan is trying to create a false image that will keep people away from
the fact that there is a great cloud of witnesses who are watching this last lap
in the race. God is gathering together His elect in the Church of Jesus Christ,
visible and invisible, ready for that great first resurrection. We have much to
learn from the Scriptures. There are many questions and we must dig in and find
the answers.
A sympathetic relationship
must exist in the realm of the spirit between Christians and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are a many-membered Body. The Head is to be sensitive to the feelings of the
Body, and the Body is to be sensitive to the Head and its commands and also sensitive
to its other members. Two passages of Scsripture will explain this further. For
we have no an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore
come forth boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find
grace to help in the time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16.
Our high priest is touched
by the feelings of our infirmities. The Head responds to every feeling of every
member of the Body. If you hit your thumb with a hammer, you will feel it even
up in you head. If somebody steps on your toes you say, “Ouch!” Up in your head
is where you will react most to it. In the same way, Jesus Christ, the Lord in
heaven, our great Head, is touched by the feeling of our infirmities.
And whether one member suffers,
all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice
with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God has
set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers,
after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of
tongues. I Corinthians 12:26-28. This is speaking of
the interflow of a Body that is so one that if one member suffers, they all feel
it and the all suffer. If one member rejoices over a blessing, they are all blessed
with it. We could compare it to a sister who buys a beautiful, but somewhat ridiculous,
new hat. When she puts it on, she feels good all over. How it is possible for
here to feel good all over just by putting a hat on her head, we do not know,
but that is the way it works. When one member rejoices, all rejoice with him.
If God blesses one member, all are blessed.
In the sight of God, the closer we become to one another spiritually, the more the restoration and feeling one another. That is the basis of what God is bringing forth by the Spirit in the great Body of Christ in the end time—a sensitivity to the Lord Jesus Christ, a plane of worship we have never known before, a flow of prophecy that is growing deeper as we come under His control, a flow of the vision the way of symptom signs, impartation signs and all of the other signs that allow us to tune in to one another in the spirit and to begin to sense one another’s needs and burdens.
When we speak of Jesus Christ
dying for our sins, we cannot say that He suffered once for everything else and
that is the end of it. It is true that there was one sacrifice for sin,
but there is still a remainder of suffering to be accomplished in other areas.
Although we do not suffer for one another’s sins, we do suffer with one another.
Paul describes how he did this in Colossians 1:23-29. …whereof I Paul am
made a minister; who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which
is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which
is the church whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God
which is given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God; even the mystery which
has been from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among
the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: whom we preach, warning
every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man
perfect in Christ Jesus: whereunto I also labor, striving according to his working,
which works in me mightily.
Paul could have had a good
time serving the Lord if he had not become an apostle, but he became burdened
for all those churches and all their cares. He said that in his body he was completing
what was lacking in the sufferings of Christ for His Body. Yes, Christ suffered
for us once, but there is still a suffering that take place. It can be likened
unto travail. Any ministry knows what that travail is. Concerning this generation,
the Lord said that in that day sudden destruction would come upon them as travail
upon a woman with child (I Thessalonians 5:3). That pain is inevitable. The mother
knows it is going to come, and when it comes, the convulsions and the strain of
that pain, the muscular spasms of the body as it is changing and preparing for
the birth of a child upon the earth, is a creative force.
God is bringing judgment upon
the earth, but now we experience the travail pains of a new age that is coming.
He is bringing one age to an end, and He is getting ready for the Kingdom of God
to come forth, when the Lord will rule and reign upon the earth. The earth is
already in the midst of travail pains, as though the coming events were casting
their shadows before them. As for the Church of Jesus Christ, it is as it was
with Paul. There are some that will be suffering for His Body’s sake, to see His
Body brought into the place of perfection. He suffered for our sins and became
the perfect redemption and the one Mediator between God and man, the Man Christ
Jesus. We suffer for one another, minister to one another, and travail for one
another.
In this end time, a great many
signs are coming, and through these days you will find that a burden of prayer
will rest upon you and you will began to travail. One time I went into travail
for a brother who had intense agony in his groin and in his side. It became so
bad that he did not know what to do. Exactly at the moment that I began to pray
for him, he was healed. I have a living contact in the spirit with everyone that
I have eve laid my hands upon.
It is important that you never
let unconsecrated hands be laid upon you. Guard your head just as you would your
very life, unless you are around someone who can decontaminate the area, because
mystical contacts in the spirit are tremendously strong. We need to understand
the full nature of these things and learn to battle them adequately. However,
we do not fight alone, and the ways in which Christians can help each other are
tremendous. They can lay hands on one another, they can bless one another, they
can pray for one another, they can be sympathetic with one another in feeling
one another’s pains and assaults, and they can even sense the things that are
coming against each other’s spirits so that they can solicit help and cry out
to God to see them overcome.
There are many scriptural illustrations
of these signs and the way they work. And Judah went up; and Yahweh delivered
Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in
Bezek ten thousand men. And they found Adonibezek in Bezek; and they fought against
him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites. But Adonibezek fled; and
they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great
toes cut off, gathered their food under my table: as I have done, so God has required
of me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there. Judges 1:4-7.
Adonibezek was the king who
had been taken by the Israelites. The first thing they did was to cut off his
thumbs and his great toes, which was very humiliating. The signs that come today
in a person’s thumb and great toe have significance. When they anointed the Old
Testament priest, they put the oil on his ear, on his thumb, and on his great
toe. Then he would stand ministering as the high priest of God. So great was his
authority that he was the one who spoke to God for the people.
In the days of Abraham it was
a serious offense to make a false thumbprint. It was an offense similar to forgery
today, except that then they cut off a man’s hand for committing it. Archeologists
have even discovered cuneiform tablets showing that Abraham of Ur of Chaldeas
entered into a negotiation to buy some cattle. His thumbprint was found on the
clay tablet. The thumb, then, is the sign of integrity.
It is also the sign of authority.
When the thumb of a defeated king was cut off, it meant that his authority had
been taken away. The same thing held true if they cut off his great toe. New in
this day, we find God bringing the sign.
A sign in the heels also has
a scriptural basis. The first prophecy concerning the Messiah was that the seed
of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent and he would bruise His heel
(Genesis 3:15). Paul said, “It shall please God to bruise Satan under your feet
shortly” (Romans 16:20). The sign in the heel comes when you are about to come
into a great victory over Satan.
The sign of the thumb comes
for God’s kings and priests who are coming forth in the earth. That is why it
is so closely related to the sign of worship and the sign of authority. The thumb
will burn when God is bringing forth an apostolic ministry or when you are hearing
an apostolic word. Your thumb will also begin to vibrate under the pressure of
the Spirit because that is the authority by which He is represented in the Church.
These signs are manifold and
they are unique. In fact, my thumb works as a lie detector, since the sign in
the thumb is a sign of integrity, or conversely, the sign of a lying spirit. By
the specific area of my thumb where I feel an anointing, I can tell whether someone
is telling the truth or lying to me.
Integrity can be discerned
and authority can be manifested, all through the sign in the thumb. When I am
dealing with a demon oppression, I place my thumbs on it. It never fails. It is
the sign of authority that God has given. I may lay my entire hand on it, but
I specifically lay my thumbs on the area where I sense the oppression. This represent
spiritual authority, the authority of kings and the authority of the priests of
God that come before the Lord. And because it represents the priesthood of God
that is coming forth in the earth, the thumb many times will react in the midst
of worship, when I am offering to the Lord the spiritual sacrifices of the holy
priesthood of God. Worship and authority are both represented in the thumb.
Throughout the Scriptures are
woven many other examples of fascinating revelation concerning these signs. It
